Week 8 News

Olivia Farrell

Hi everyone,

Hope you’re all enjoying the Easter break!

SPC AGM

This years AGM is being held in the seminar room on Tuesday March 25th at 1pm. Positions up for grabs include Chair, Sectary, PRO, and 3 ordinary member positions. Anyone interested in the role of chair is to contact Una Redmond (una.redmond@dcu.ie) with a short snipit about why you want to be chair and why you should. Societies representatives are encouraged to attend so that all societies are represented.

Portfolios

Portfolios are due this Tuesday. Get em in quick! All portfolios should be submitted to Siobhan Byrne in the Clubs and Societies Office upstairs in the Hub.

Discontinuation of Funding for position of Student Activities Officer

The SPC would like to express their disappointment at The University’s decision to discontinue funding for the position of Student Activities Officer. The current Student Activities Officer Lisa Muldowney has been served notice of the termination of her post with effect from the end of the current academic year and, as yet, The University has failed to provide details as to who will continue the important work that Ms. Muldowney has performed in this role.

The SPC, SCC and Students’ Union are calling on The University to reconsider their decision to halt funding for this position as we believe the loss of the Student Activities Officer will impact negatively on the thriving extra-curricular life that DCU prides itself on sustaining. The Student Activities Officer has helped to set up and establish some of the most prominent clubs and societies in DCU, has been instrumental in the operation of DCU Open Days and the Uaneen Module, and has served as a reliable point of contact for all student activities within the university.

We would appreciate hearing the thoughts of students on this issue on life.dcu.ie
