Seir Kieran
Seir Kieran Church, Co. Offaly.
This sheela is on permanent display in the National Museum, Kildare Street, Dublin 2.
Originally placed on the East gable of this church, founded by St. Ciaran and in a monastic enclosure of over 25 acres, where there are many earthworks, ruins and tombstones. Nearby are St. Kierans Bush and Holy Well.
This sheela is unique in that it has several additional holes around the lower part of the body and it is thought they played a part in fertility rites, maybe by having branches or fingers inserted into them.
