Newtown Lennan

Newtown Lenan Church, Co. Tipperary.

Of which some remnants survive, a few kilometres north of Carrick on Suir, the figure itself is kept in the National Museum, Dublin.

Visited this site today and was impressed by the size of this parish church, which unfortunately is being overtaken by nature and a portion of one wall has already fallen down.
At the Eastern end is a large 3 light pointed window taking up almost the entire wall and as there are no other windows in the building must have been an impressive sight.
Some of the headstones within the church are well decorated with crucifixion images and include a whip, sponge and bucket, nails, ladders, hammers, dice, winejar and crown of thorns. 1807AD

At the crossroads a narrow farm track leads to a Danger sign and the church is cordoned off, but access can be gained by climbing over the right-hand cattle gate.
