Errigal Keeroge

Errigal Keeroge, Co. Tyrone.

Or Eerigal Kerrogue as it is written at the entrance to this church and graveyard. While one sheela (image No.2) has been removed to the Ulster Museum, Belfast, another still remains on the inside of the North wall and while she is still facing South as is customary, it is evident that this is not it’s original location due to it’s wear and tear.

This is a deeply cut image with a stance similar to the Stepaside sheela but on this image the vulva is defined. Back up to it’s left shoulder where a shape that can only be described as a pipe is evident. Our first pipe smoking sheela?
